Introducing the Beyeler Foundation
The Beyeler Foundation, located in Riehen, Switzerland, in close proximity to the city of Basel, is an eminent museum of modern and contemporary art.
This is where the collection of modern and contemporary artworks carefully assembled by the gallerist Ernst Beyeler and his wife Hildy finds its haven.
In terms of its history, the Beyeler Foundation was established in 1982, under the impetus of Ernst and Hildy Beyeler.
Started in the 1950s, their passion for modern and contemporary artworks had already resulted in a collection of over 200 pieces before they decided to bequeath it to Switzerland.
The Italian architect Renzo Piano designed the museum, which opened its doors in 1997. It is located in a 16-hectare park, on the banks of the Birsig river.
